Moving Into Halloween

Sterling turned 23 in September. When they came up for a visit we celebrated.

Dennis was named Trainer of the Year at this year's annual
Glock Sales meeting.

29 October was our Andersen family Halloween party. I guess the sky dressed up in traditional Halloween colors to help us celebrate.

The trick or treat bags were the most artistic yet. This is Rindi Van Langeveld (Gerrit and Alex' youngest)

Tayla was Supergirl. Landon was a knight and Jonathan was a soldier.

Grandma Coralee was looking after Kiley's kids so she and Matt could celebrate their wedding anniversary. Miles was a cowboy and the horse. Madeline was a beautiful Chinese lady and Hannah was a pirate. Her doll was dressed up as her parot.

Alisa and J.J. are expecting again.

New baby Grace did not seem to happy about her first Halloween.

But Grandma Marge had a great time.

I grew these! Pretty, beautiful and interesting, don't you think? There were enough for each of us.

Aleck was a skeleton. He loves skeletons.

Quinn was PLANET MAN. He loves the Solar System.

Patton was not very interested in dressing up for Halloween this year, so he and Papa Dennis played in the basement while everyone else got up to their elbows in pumpkin guts.

Brita loves skeletons too.

As they were leaving, Dennis asked Gaetano what his hat said. Gaetano told him, "SWAT".
"OK", and Dennis gave him a playful swat.
Gaetan0 gave him a funny look and as he was getting into the car said, "I did NOT see that coming."

Happy Halloween!

Indian Summer

The weather has been beautiful--70s during the day.
Perfect motorcycling weather.
The Alpine Loop.

The Mount Nebo Loop.

This is the Devil's Kitchen in the Nebo Loop.
It looks like a little Bryce Canyon.

I got a chance to travel with Dennis to Pasco to visit
Celia & Brandon and the children.
Part of the fun of being a grandma is buying treats for the grandkids without any thought to doing the laundry or scrubbing the car afterwards. Celia and Brandon are really good sports.

Hailey has the icecream cone licking figured out.

Last weekend, we celebrated Quinn's and Aunt Debbie's birthdays.
Quinn is not turning 4.
He turned 6 years old this month but I ran out of candles.
(I had two boxes in the cupboard. I thought that I had plenty.
But there were only 5 candles total.)
Quinn was such a good sport that he was willing to celebrate by sharing what was left with Aunt Deb
and so blew out a symbolic amount of candles.

Do you like the festive Zombie sprinkles?
That was the name of the sprinkles so that we would buy a bottle and put them on our Halloween treats this month.
(It worked for me.)
They remind you of zombies don't they?

The crutch in the background is Aunt Debbie's. She had surgery this summer on her knee that did nerve damage to her foot.
They recently operated to repair that damage.
She is doing better but is not doing any handsprings yet.

Summer Birthday Blowouts

Hey you guys, it was Aunt Darla's 50th birthday on August 4th.
Tisher and Tueller cousins joined for the celebration.
Those cousins are easy to throw a party with, they prepared enough pasta salad to feed 100 of us. There were actually around 40 total.
(That is cousin Laura Tisher sitting with Darla.)

Dennis and Brita did the decorations.

Next, it was Patton's second birthday on September 8th.

Brita and Matt enjoyed the Nemo cake. It didn't taste at all fishy.

Jessi served delicious orange Nemo punch.

Quinn helped with the decorating.

He put this crepe paper here because he wanted us all to notice Jesus.

Opening presents--the best part of birthdays.

Patton was even happy to get the pants

that Jessi requested that we get for him.

Fun times.

When we first arrived on Oahu, they were celebrating their Pan Pacific holiday and King Kamehameha Days with a parade. In the middle of all the kimonos came a marching group wearing red cowboy hats and carrying outlines of Texas. I wasn't really sure how Texas tied in to being Hawaiian but apparently it does.

This is a bay on an incredible road on the western coast of Maui. Single lane. No shoulder. Cliffs with ocean views. It drives more like a roller coaster than a roadway. Especially the way Dennis drives it.

The cliffs at Haleakala National Park. Home of the Seven Sacred Pools. (But there are actually more than 20) We swam in the pools and jumped from the rocks. A sign said that we were responsible for our own safety. We decided we were OK with that concept.

This is a block wide Banyan tree. I thought it was so cool. The branches grow horizontally from the trunk. When the branch reaches a certain length it sends out vines which, when they make contact with earth, take root and becomes another support. From a distance it looks like a stand of trees, but it is all just one tree. Planted in 1873 by the town sheriff.

One of the famous black beaches of Maui. It almost looked iridescent to me in the afternoon sun.

And finally sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Time to get on our airplane and come home. Thanks Mr. Glock.

We ran into Nicole Hillary and her daughter Ashley while Daniel's unit was boarding the plane. This is Ashley's husband's 3rd tour in Iraq. They asked about you all.
